A Sweater for All Seasons!

Hi Beautiful People!

Last week I went shopping with a friend in Walnut Creek. I love going to WC because it is very upscale compared to what I am used to. We headed over to Loft because there was a fab skirt I saw online that I wanted but alas it was sold out in stores. The skirt is now sold out online as well. Damn, I have good taste.

As luck would have it, Loft had a 40% off already reduced prices sale, which I was very excited about!! My plan was to get tops/sweaters/blouses because I can’t wear grubby t-shirts to work anymore. Believe me, this is both good and bad. But, I digress.

I happily rifled through the clearance rack in the petite section in Loft and picked out a few things to try on. After I fitted a few too big peasant blouses and a “too short for work” skirt, I went back to see if I missed anything.

It was then that I found what I feel is a fantastic sweater that can be worn for most of the year. Maybe it is because I am living in California, but I love a short sleeved sweater. I found a gorgeous beige sweater with a bit of gold thread glinting here and there in the yarn. Three buttons located at the back of the collar and a slightly longer hemline in the back make the sweater current. I love this top! I feel that it is versatile, can be worn with a variety of bottoms, and can be dressy or casual.

I scored this fantastic sweater for only $18!

ISO: The Perfect Camisole

HI Beautiful People!

As my style matures I realize that less is more when it comes to showing skin. (yes, young lady it is a truth.)

As a result, I have been delving deeper into the world of underclothes that can help conceal what I would rather not share. And with these DDs there is a lot to cover.

My current obsession is camisoles and lately I am rarely without one. As such, I have been trying cami’s and tank tops from several different stores to see which ones are the best fit. So far I have tried camis’/tanks from Target, Walmart, JCPenny, Old Navy, Gap, and JCrew. Seriously I wear one about everyday so I have a lot of them. Plus some can double as tank tops so they are a bit more versatile. I was disappointed when one of the JCrew tanks had a run in it after one wash. The JCPenny tanks were actually a bit too heavy.

My biggest problem with tank tops is length. Lately they have been WAY too long because of the layering top trend (particularly the old navy brand). But this doesn’t work well for me because I am so short and I don’t really have any torso to speak of. In defense of Old Navy I bought the regular sized ones. So far the best camisole tank I have found is from the petite sized tanks from the Gap that I bought on a 30%off online purchases sale.

Any other brands that I should try?

Entire lookbook for Jason Wu for Target!! (and my picks)

Hi Beautiful People!

Just two days ago Target released the ENTIRE lookbook for the Jason Wu for Target designer collaboration. Whew! This collection will definitely be worth the wait.

As my loyal readership know, I seek out the best of the designer collaborations to determine what is the most wearable for the average woman. And when I say wearable, I mean, appropriate for work, school, a night out, and hanging out with your girls. BTW, I heard somewhere that ladies these days are dressing more for their girlfriend than for the men in their lives (or who they want to be in their lives/bed). I wholeheartedly agree with this observation because I love to dress up for my female colleagues. My girls are good about saying ‘you look so cute!’ which feels so great. But, I digress!

Anyways, back to JWFT…I have to say nearly EVERY piece in this collection is classic and wearable! This collection is so unlike the other designer collaborations that I just could buy every damn piece. The pieces are both classic and fresh due to Wu’s use of navy blue, pastels, pleating, boat neck and collar necklines, and lots of horizontal stripes. Now, horizontal stripes are NOT my favorite (or anyone who is only 5’2″ but it is a huge trend right now and I can’t seem to get away from them. Wu is right on Target (no pun intended) for what is in for Spring 2012. Yay!!

Below, I love this sailor suit inspired navy blue dress because it is not costum-y at all. I think it is gorgeous and the button detail up the shoulder is adorable and just enough without too much. I hope the belt comes with this. I like this contrast shoulder b/w shoulder bag. So classic, however, I am worried about this bag getting dirty. :-/

Blue sailor suit inspired dress ($39)

I also LOVE the blue and yellow floral print on the scarf and two handbags. I am not a huge blue person (I am trying to branch out more) but I do adore blue and yellow together. Add in some daisies and FFF is a super happy girly girl.

Jason Wu for Target Blue Flower Square Shoulder Bag ($39)

Jason Wu for Target Blue Flower Scarf

A woman can never have enough tote bags and I especially LOVE this one. Too bad it is $40!!

Jason Wu for Target Mila Tote ($39)

My absolute FAVORITE part of the collection, funny enough, is the navy blue shorts and super sweet red/blue top. I really love the simple chic of this outfit…and shorts are something I could actually use in my bureau.

Jason Wu for Target Navy Shorts & Stripe Top

and finally the white dress with black lace petticoat is chic and femininity incarnate. It is simply divine and just gorgeous.

White Dress with Black Petticoat ($59)

There are many many more adorable outfits in the collection including a baby blue cardi, a blue and yellow dress.  See the rest of the collection below (all shots courtesy of Glamour.com) and prices can be found here.

What is your favorite piece from the collection??

P.S. What about those black ruffly socks worn by the model? Hmmm….

Versace for H&M Strategy for Debut

Hi Beautiful People!

So, there has been a flurry of press this last week leading up to the Versace for H&M debut in the US this coming Saturday Nov 19. My girls at SFSU have been telling me all week about how they heard about it here or there. Im really not happy about all this press…it just means it will be that much harder for me to get anything from this line.

One detail that I just learned is that the clothes will be available in sizes 4-12. So there will be something for our rubenesque friends! The California Girls are the most fortunate as the collection will be carried in a whopping EIGHT stores (two in the SF Bay Area where I live: SF and SanHO!) Also, H&M made me soo happy because they are limiting each customer to TWO of each garment or accessory. At least we won’t find eight of the Versace for H&M neclace we wanted on eBay sold by one seller (I hate those damn ebayers). Customers can only purchase TWO of the same object regardless of the size.

I called the H&M store in Union Square (San Francisco) this past tuesday and was told that the Men’s collection will be public but the women’s  would be in the lingerie and people would be let in by groups by wristband only. Ok. That I can handle. I am willing to get up and wait for more than six hours to get that Versace bracelet that I want. The important thing to note is that ONLY the first 280 individuals in line will receive a wristband to enter the women’s section. Groups will be let in 20 at a time in order of arrival. Yes, I am determined to be one of the 280 in San Francisco. I would like to be in the first group of 20–we’ll see how that goes for me. Click here for the official rules for shopping Versace for H&M the collection.

I believe that I have narrowed my wish list down to several items. I have decided that I absolutely LOVE the Pelle Borchie items in the women’s collection. If I could have my choice I would purchase the black and gold skirt  ($129) and  sleeveless top with the design (never worn together). I will fight for this top ($50) though. OK, so a cotton jersey top for $50 is not entirely fierce frugal fashion..but it is authentic brand-new Versace for crying out loud. Throw me a bone ladies! The other Pelle Borchie top is also chic, subtle, and gorgeous, but also $70 because it is woven silk. I would rather save the $20 to apply for a piece of jewelery (that is fiercefrugalfashion).

Versace for H&M black cotton top ($50)

Versace for H&M silk skirt ($130)

The Pelle Borchie  leather jackets are ABSOLUTEY TO DIE FOR! There is a trench coat and motorcycle jackets in both zipup or button. Of all three I like zipup moto jacket the best. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. However, at $300 I am going to have to pass on this one. I am not necessarily awesome looking in a motorcycle jacket. Besides someone is gonna LOVE this garment more than I ever could.

My very favorite pieces in this collection are the jewelery and handbags. The number one item that I want is the leather bracelet ($40)–I would prefer to have the gold tone and black but I really don’t care, I will be ecstatic if I can get either. I also LOVE the goldtone bracelet ($29). I will probably purchase this too if it is available. Images of both are below.

Versace for H&M Goldtone Bracelet ($30)

The rings are also to die for and I am really going to try to get one (available in sizes S, M, L)! The earring look really awesome too. But I want to see them vefore I make my final decision. They may be too big for my delicate ears (ha!)

Versace for H&M Ring ($20)

Versace for H&M Earrings ($20)

I would also really love to have this animal print and pink silk scarf but I am sure those will go super fast. I may even settle for the blue one if it is still available but I seriously doubt I will be able to purchase either.

Versace for H&M Silk Scarf ($30)

Finally, the last items on my wish list is a handbag. However, I really don’t think I will end up buying one because they are soo damn expensive! I am never happy..if the purse is poor quality materials I complain and then when it is nice materials (silk in this case) I complain because it is too expensive. When I am Queen, a girl will be able to get a chic, gorgeous bag of high quality materials for about $50! I am really curious to see these handbags. Below are my two favs. I am not entirely sure about the price on the black bag so I am holding off on that.

So there you go! The official FFF wishlist as of two days before the debut. Let’s see what I actually end up with. :-)

I am planning on arriving at the Union Square H&M either the night before (friday) or at 2 or 3 am saturday morning. Yes, I know I am insane! But I just want to experience a large debut like this once in my life. I have the time to do it now so I am gonna bite the bullet and just do it. Do you plan on arriving early on Saturday morning? What is your strategy for buying your favorite pieces? I plan on flying to the accessories first, then checking out the Pelle Borchie second. Afterwards I will go to the men’s cloths to see if the belt is as good as it looks in the photos!

I will let you know how it goes!

Giambattista Valli for Impulse for Macy’s (Review)

Hi Beautiful People!

Today I had the pleasure of visiting Impluse Store at Macy’s in order to perform some reconnaissance on the Giambattista Valli for Impulse Collection.

Before I jump in to the fabulousness that is the Valli collection I want to mention the last Impulse collection…Karl Lagerfeld. I reviewed this collection in August when it debuted and gave it an OK at that time. Since, then I have been to Macy’s several times and seen KL collection in passing. Let me just say I liked the collection less each time I saw it. I didn’t buy a stitch of clothing from this line. It looks dark, drab, and may I dare say…sad, especially next to all the gorgeous colors out for Fall/Winter 2011. Apparently, I am not the only one who isn’t overly impressed with it, because the clothes aren’t necessarily flying off the rack. Look at these kiosks bursting with clothes from the collection. This after a 25% price reduction.

Karl Lagerfeld for Impluse is not selling well even at 25% off

...and even more (unsold) clothes from the KL collection

Now, on to the Valli Collection. OK, hands down, I LOVE this collection. I love some pieces more than others but the good pieces are SO fabulous that they knocked my socks off. Literally I took my socks off in the dressing room–I tried to grab a pair of black heels from the shoe section to strut back to the fitting room but was nearly tackled by a security guard.

So onto the garments I tried on…first of all I grabbed this flutter sleeve animal print blouse just for laughs. It’s kinda cute, but not necessarily my favorite. I wouldn’t buy it but it sure was fun to try on! (do you love me pairing this with jeans?-ha!)

Secondly, I really like this skirt. I chose the black sequined t-shirt to pair it with just to have a top I could photograph in. I would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS wear a sequined t-shirt like this. Just to clarify. However, I really liked the Animal Print Metallic Jacquard skirt! More about this fabric below.

Valli Collection for Impulse: Animal Print Metallic Jacquard skirt ($69) and black sequined t-shirt ($59)

Animal Print Metallic Jacquard skirt ($69)-Cute!

Next up is the Animal Print Metallic Jacquard jacket with three-quarter length sleeves. This was the garment that first caught my eye and I LOVED it even more when I tried it on! So glamorous and chic! I always hate putting on my ratty wool coat over a gorgeous dress when I am going out. This jacket is the perfect remedy for that problem. Want!

Finally…the piece de resistance is the puff sleeve animal print metallic Jacquard dress in carmen red. Now, I didn’t really think twice about this dress when I grabbed it off the rack. I was like “meh, it’s kinda cute…” but when I put it on…dreaminess ensued. I absolutely LOVED this dress and was actually SAD to take it off. I want it so bad! I am trying to figure out where I can wear it…New Years Eve party, maybe? IDK, but I gotta figure it out quick. This dress is gorgeous, flattering, modern, chic, on-trend and very now. From the sweet puff sleeves, to the perfect length it is sex on a stick. But with enough modesty that you can wear it and not feel like a trashy hooker. The print is magnificent, the animal print becomes smaller around the waist and that is somehow slimming! It’s like Cinderella magic or maybe Giambattista Valli voodoo but it is lovely, elegant, and cool all at the same time! The fit is divine too. Double WANT!! (notice no socks!)

Can you tell I love this dress? How many times have I included THREE photos of the same garment? I need to find somewhere to wear this immediately. Too bad I am not a high level curator at a premier museum or I would def wear this to an exhibit opening. Oh well, maybe someday….in my dreams.

I suggest all you run out and try this dress on. It may be a winner for your much anticipated holiday party! :-)

oh, and Giambattista…I give you an A+ on this one!! Thanks for the lovelies.

Fall 2011 Thrift Store Score!

HI Beautiful People!

With all this talk of designer collaborations such as Missoni and Versace I felt the need to get back to my roots. So, I headed over to my local Goodwill Industries to browse through some used clothes.

While I was there I tried on a few things…a couple blazers that didn’t necessarily work for me (boo). I am on the lookout for great classy blazers lately.

However, I did find a great camel colored DKNY JEANS sweater in fabulous condition for only $6.99! This sweater is perfect for fall 2011 because neutrals, especially camel (fancy way for saying tan), is particularly hot for the season.

I love the details on this sweater: tunic shape, sweet bell-shaped 3/4 length sleeve, and metallic stitching at the hem; all of these dress the garment up. The deep V-neck necessitates a camisole or t-shirt underneath, which allows you to dress it up or down. I absolutely love clothes that are versitile enough to wear to work, school, or play! This sweater is great for any occasion, which is perfect for the lady on a budget. Ignore the wrinkles…I haven’t washed it yet! I was so excited I had to share with my lovelies ASAP. :-)

Amazing Deal at Michael Kors Company Store

Hi Beautiful People!

Yesterday I had to have a procedure at the hospital in Vacaville California, which to me is an amazing reason to visit the Premium Outlet Stores there.

This has to be my FAV outlet mall ever. The best stores are there including Gucci, Columbia, Burberry, Loft, Coach, Juicy Couture, Banana Republic, J.Crew, Gap, Jockey, and Sanrio.

What you say, a HELLO KITTY outlet store?!?! Um, yes and I can’t extol the wonder that is the Sanrio outlet. If you love kitty as much as I do then you need to know about this store. It is so cheap you can buy a plane ticket to come out here and still come out ahead. But, I digress. :-)

As usual, I dropped in to the Michael Kors Company Store to drool over all the pretty things. As I was browsing through the clearance rack I saw a gorgeous cream and gold silk camisole marked $29.99. Of course there were only size 0, 2, and 4 on the rack…with one size 6 and a 10. The 10 looked waay too big and I wasn’t going to whip myself by trying on the 6. But the sales lady was soo cute and nice that I decided to go for it and try it on (I have lost a little weight lately). As you have probably guessed, the size 6 fits and now I own my first item of clothing by Michael Kors!!

The cashier even told me that this item came directly from the MK retail store and was not made specifically for the Company (outlet) store. I assume she is correct as the original price was $120 (who can afford that?). I have such good taste!

I love the twist detailing on the racerback! Yay for my closet! She has always wanted MK to come over! :-)
