Fierce Frugal Fabulous: Marc by Marc Jacobs Black Wedge

HI Beautiful People!

Yesterday I found myself in the Sunset District of San Francisco and of course I had to visit my fav thrift store Crossroads Trading between 8th and 9th on Irving.

Earlier last week I was there and scoped out a pair of black wedge heels from Marc by Marc Jacobs. Now I have never owned a scrap of fabric sold by anyone with a name even closely resembling Marc Jacobs. So it was fun just for me to try on a pair of shoes that have that name on it. I liked them but I was not entirely convinced that I would wear them so I didn’t buy them.

Yesterday when I arrived I made a beeline for where I found the shoes and was happily surprised to see that no one had snapped them up yet. So I tried them on again and immediately was won over. I thought I could pay $35 for this pair of heels. So, I did! and now they are mine, all  mine!

I hear you calling me a brand whore but I don’t care

Yes, only $35

The shoes are fairly comfortable because when you consider the platform the heel is only 2-3 inches.  Hopefully I wont fall in them. The size is perfect…37 1/2. I didn’t even know Europeans sold half sizes. They are also in like new condition. :-)

Can you tell I am excited about my new shoes?

Fall Fashion Trend: Loafer flats

Hi Beautiful People!

Yesterday I picked up a great pair of red and neutral spectator-type loafers from Marshall’s! I love the loafers trend and have been waiting for the perfect pair to come along in the perfect price. I scoped out a pair several weeks ago but I waited to make sure I really wanted them. When I stopped in yesterday and they still had them in my size I was stoked! Especially because I actually have $$$ to buy a new pair of shoes!  Because I buy so much secondhand sometimes it feels nice to buy something completely new. I purchased these lovelies-by Report Shoes/the model is Waverly-for the low price of $25.

I predict these will be quite versatile as well. I plan on wearing them with skirts and jeans. You know how I love to be on trend.

Thrift Store Score: Opening Reception Dress

Hi Beautiful People!!

Earlier this week I had the pleasure of heading over to Rags to Riches my most favorite-est consignment shop outside of San Francisco. It was time for me to drop off a load of fall/winter clothes and check on the new inventory. Yay!

A little background on Rags to Riches…I began coming here a few years ago because I had tons of clothes that didn’t fit me anymore and I didn’t want to just give them to the thrift store. I had been turned down at shops in SF and Berkeley (snobs) so I gave a last ditch effort at Rags to Riches in Benicia Ca and they agreed to consign nearly all my stuff. I actually find a lot of clothes to buy here too. The best part of the store is the used handbags in the counters up front. Remy has some of the most wonderful bags on consignment. I am still kicking myself that I passed on a lovely pink Kate Spade bag I saw there a while ago. Did I ever tell you how I accidentally left my prescription Coach eyeglasses in my bag of clothes that I left there to consign? Thank the goddess that Remy had someone call me. When I got there my glasses had a $25 price tag on them–yeah, those glasses were about $400 retail price. Ack! I am so thankful to the staff that they contacted me. But I digress.

I had a bunch of winter/fall clothes stashed for a while so I was super excited that I was finally able to unload them. I brought in my Missoni galoshes that never did fit me correctly, corduroys, two coats, shoes, skirts, etc. I was super excited that they took everything except for two garments! I agree, those items were pretty worn. So, I was happy with my haul. I headed over to the dresses and skirts just to browse. While I was still at the beginning of the rack I saw this gorg navy and tan fabric peeking out in the middle/back of the rack. I calmly continued to leaf through the rack until I came upon the mysterious lovely fabric.

The garment turned out to be a wonderful tank dress from Banana Republic….in my size. Honestly, I had not planned on buying anything that day because I had just got rid of a bunch of stuff. But I couldn’t help trying this wonderful dress on. Did I mention that it was my size but in a petite?!?! I convinced myself that it wouldn’t fit just so I wouldnt be disappointed but voila! it zipped up perfectly and will look even BETTER once I get on those Spanx! ;-)

I knew immediately this was the dress that I would wear to the opening reception for the new exhibit at the local history museum where I have recently been hired(!).

So what I am a brand whore?

Did I mention this dress was only $TWENTY DOLLARS$?!?! I only looked at the price after I tried it on and wanted it. Even Ms. FFF can afford a  $20 dollar dress! Yes, I know it is terribly wrinkled but

I am going to pair the dress with a short sleeved cropped white shrug and a wonderful pair of Kenneth Cole black heels I got at the Crossroads Trading in Berkeley. I am on the lookout for a new white shrug starting….now.

Whaddya think of my new outfit?

Have a wonderful week!

Thrift Store Score Spring 2012 Edition

Hi Beautiful People!

Spring has almost arrived here in California and this season it means pretty prints and pastels. I was so excited to see mint green, light pink and yellows all over the March & April issues of Vogue. Mrs. FFF has been seriously watching her pennies lately,  so I had the perfect opportunity to splurge a couple of weeks ago at the Goodwill Industries 50% off clothes and shoes Presidents Day sale!

Hubby and I went together because he loves a good deal just like me. I have to say that we made out like bandits that day. Hubby got a pair of brand new New Balance running shoes in all black (his fav type of sneakers) with Ross Dress for Less price tags for $12.50 after the 50% off discount. He was super excited because he wears a size 13 shoe and he never finds cheap shoes anywhere. Not to mention he actually wears these shoes, they do not just sit in his closet. So, he got a bit of karma early that saturday morning.

I also scored a couple of GREAT blazers, which is a garment I feel I need to add more of to my wardrobe. I found an excellent Anne Klein black  blazer in a petite size (which exact size I will keep to myself). The blazer is a huge score because it is all black and in great condition. I was super excited to add this coat to my collection because it is such a basic piece that will never go out of style. Plus, the sleeves are not too long. I wore this great blazer to my most recent job interview. I believe my outfit had a lot to do with me getting the job…along with my stunning intellect and wit. just kidding! Oh, did I mention the jacket was $5.50 after the 50% discount! :-)

The best item that I found is an ADOR-able mint green wool blazer with a beaded flower detail on the lapel from Old Navy (of all retailers). The beads are iridescent mostly tube beads accented with a sprinkling of seed beads. I fell in love with this jacket instantly and was just tickled to see that it was a size L to fit over my current Rubin-esque figure. The jacket was snug when I tried it on but for the very low price of $5.50 after the 50% discount, I bit the bullet and asked hubby to buy it for me. I wore it a few times and I just love it. I have to roll up the sleeves, but honestly I don’t really care–rolling sleeves can be charming in its own way.

from the runway section at TJMaxx

Hi Beautiful People!

Today, I made a special trip to the TJ Maxx in Moraga California while running errands. I had heard a rumour that this particular TJMaxx had a ‘from the runway’ section. I have been meaning to check it out for months but I hadn’t given myself the luxury of shopping for fun in a while. So, I treated myself. Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to snap photos from this store so you will have to trust me for my word.

When I first arrived in the store I was immediately overcome when I saw a rack of garments from Talbots! I was super excited, especially because the pieces were in very trendy colors including gray and cobalt blue. Tank tops with appropriately places sequins for only $7.99 and adorable cotton spring jackets for $19.99! If you love Talbots like I do, run out to your fav TJ Maxx to see if they got any of this inventory. Love it.

The store in Moraga did indeed have a ‘from the runway’ section and even though it was quite small it had a lot of designer clothing and shoes. Honestly, I only recognized a few of the designers represented including Kate Spade and Escada. I was most impressed with the Kate Spade pumps and sandals ($129.99). I love Kate Spade, but I can hardly ever afford it so I was happy to see it at TJ Maxx. You can find good deals if you sign up for the Kate Spade store emails, but even then the stuff is super expensive. I got a wallet there after christmas on super clearance once. But I digress. I really love Kate Spade jewelry as well and would be so happy to see it at TJ Maxx. I saw several garments with “last runway season” tags while I was browsing around. I will definitely be back to this particular TJMaxx to browse the section.

Does anyone else know where other TJ Maxx stores with from the runway sections are located?

Fashion on the Street

Hi Beautiful People!

Quick note to share with you a fabulous pair of black and white spectator oxfords worn by a lovely young lady on the campus on San Francisco State University! She was gracious enough to let me photo them on her pretty feet as she walked to class! Thank you sweet stranger!

She told me that she purchased the shoes at JC Penny’s so I did a quick search on the site. I found these lovely Sorvagur Oxfords by Call It Spring ($39.99)!

Check out photos of these great shoes below.

Super Cute Shoes

Missoni for Target Galoshes/Rain Boots (Review)

Hi Beautiful People!

Today I have to review the Missoni for Target Rain Boots ($34.99) I was lucky enough to get hands on. This is the first pair of rainboots I have ever owned, so I don’t really have anything to compare my experiences to.

First of all, these boots are really cute…I bought them in the purple floral design. I usually wear size 6 1/2 in shoes, but I when I tried them on they run a little big so I bought the size 6.

I wore them for the first time yesterday–it was supposed to rain but it didn’t so I was that girl wearing rain boots while the sun was shining. FFF Faux Pas? D’oh! But I digress.

I am not particularly impressed with the boots! The size 6 is still pretty loose around the foot but is really tight around my calves. I have man-sized calves from playing soccer in high school (or eating doritos in my 20s?). The boots don’t have an adjustable top like I have seen on other galoshes and I wish they did.

My two main problems with these galoshes is that the tightness around my calves restricts any airflow and my legs and feet become very sweaty (ewwww is right) AND the baggyness around my ankles is less than flattering.

See what I mean about the baggyness around the ankle?

Tell the truth..these look terrible don't they?

I am not entirely sure that I want to keep them. I’ve already worn them so I can’t return them. I am thinking of trying to sell them for a reduced price but the shipping charge would be atrocious.

My other option is to try and cut (!) a slit in the top of the boot so they won’t be as tight. What do you think ladies??

If not, does someone want to buy them from me? I will give you a great deal. I refuse to sell on eBay. :-)
